Corporate Cultural Awareness Consciousness Training

Wajaana Yaam Cultural Awareness training takes the participants through a journey of the experiences of Aboriginal people over the past thousands of years to today.

Clark Webb, the owner and operator of Wajaana Yaam Adventure tours, is a local Gumbaynggirr & Bundjalung man who has been an important part of local Gumbaynggirr language revitalisation in the Coffs Harbour area.

Clark works closely with community and key elders to design programs and experiences on the Coffs Coast, so there can be a wider understanding and consciousness about Aboriginal history, importance and prevalence of local culture and current cultural issues.

This training offers 2 options, in workplace setting training or combined in workplace and on country session, demonstrating the importance of land language and people, and interconnectedness to each other.

Training covers all topics:

  • Aboriginal history.
  • Importance of culture, kinship, family, language and land.
  • Discrimination, stereotypes and myths.
  • Current statics around Aboriginal peoples.
  • Aboriginal holistic views.
  • Practical ‘Where to from here’ strategies on how to engage with Aboriginal communities.
  • Practical strategies on how to create a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait island people within your workplace & classroom.
  • Direction and empowerment of staff in order to successfully build rapport and relationships with Aboriginal clients.

Outcomes:

  • Participants have a great understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and their history.
  • Receive practical tools enabling staff to be confident in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and community.

School Cultural Awareness Sessions

Clark works closely with community and key Elders to design programs and experiences on the Coffs Coast, so there can be a wider understanding and consciousness about Aboriginal history, importance and prevalence of local culture and current cultural issues.

Wajaana Yaam offers Cultural Awareness/consciousness training, which covers all of the following topics:

  • Aboriginal history.
  • Importance of culture, kinship, family, language and land.
  • Discrimination, stereotypes and myths.
  • Current statistics regarding Aboriginal peoples in socio-economic areas.
  • Aboriginal holistic views.
  • Practical ‘Where to from here’ strategies on how to engage with Aboriginal communities.
  • Practical strategies on how to create a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait island people within your workplace & classroom.
  • Direction and empowerment of staff in order to successfully build rapport and relationships with Aboriginal clients.
  • This training also offers an on country unique experience option, demonstrating the importance of land language and people, and interconnectedness to each other. 1.5 hours will be in a office setting and remaining time on country.

Wajaana Yaam also offers on Giingan on Country Cultural Tours for students and teachers that covers all the relevant Australian curriculum points, including:

  • Meaning of the Dreaming and all aspects of Aboriginal peoples connection to country.
  • Diversity of Aboriginal tribes.
  • Recognising the importance of the Dreaming in relation to todays cultural context.
  • Practical strategies on how to create a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait island people within your classroom.
  • Building rapport with Aboriginal Students.
